This privacy policy applies specifically to the MarkPeek app and takes precedence over the general CodeCraftedApps privacy policy for all matters related to this app. Where any difference exists between the two policies, this app-specific policy governs.
MarkPeek ("the App") is developed and published by CodeCraftedApps ("we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how MarkPeek handles your information — the short version is that it collects nothing and sends nothing off your Mac.
Overview
MarkPeek is a Quick Look preview extension that renders Markdown files formatted when you preview them in Finder. It is designed around a simple principle: your documents and your activity stay on your device. MarkPeek has no servers, no accounts, and makes no network requests of any kind.
Data Collection
- No Personal Data Collection: We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.
- No Analytics or Tracking: The app contains no analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking of any kind.
- No Accounts: MarkPeek requires no sign-up, login, or user account.
- No Network Requests: The app does not connect to the internet or send your data anywhere.
File Access
- Only the File You Preview: When you Quick Look a Markdown file, macOS hands MarkPeek that single file to render. MarkPeek requests no folder access and cannot browse your disk.
- On-Device Only: The document’s contents are read on your Mac solely to produce the preview. They are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared.
- Read-Only: MarkPeek only reads the file to display it. It never modifies, moves, or deletes your documents.
- Saving the Sample File: The only time MarkPeek writes anything is when you ask it to save the sample Markdown document. You choose the location in a standard save dialog, and the app is granted access to that one file — not to the folder it sits in.
- App Sandbox: MarkPeek runs in the macOS App Sandbox, which limits it to the file the system provides for preview.
Preferences
Any settings you choose are stored locally on your Mac using the system’s standard preferences storage. These preferences never leave your device.
Price
MarkPeek is free. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no paid tiers — and therefore no payment information is ever involved.
Third Parties
MarkPeek uses no third-party servers, analytics SDKs, or advertising networks. It renders Markdown entirely on your device using Apple’s open-source swift-markdown library, which runs locally and makes no network connections.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because MarkPeek stores nothing off your device, there is no server-side data to retain or delete. Any local preferences exist only while the app is installed. Uninstalling MarkPeek removes them from your Mac. Your files are never held by MarkPeek — they always remain in their original locations under your control.
Security
- macOS Security: Your data is protected by macOS security features, including the App Sandbox and device encryption.
- No Network Transmission: MarkPeek makes no network connections, so there is no data in transit to intercept.
- No Backend Servers: There are no servers to compromise.
- No Tracking SDKs: The app is built on Apple frameworks and a local Markdown parser, with no third-party tracking code.
Encryption
MarkPeek does not implement any custom encryption. It relies solely on macOS’s built-in protections. The app qualifies for the encryption exemption under U.S. export regulations (EAR) as it uses only standard operating-system functionality.
Children’s Privacy
MarkPeek does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. It is safe for users of all ages in this regard.
Website Data
This website (codecraftedapps.com/apps/markpeek/) is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages. It uses no analytics, no tracking cookies, and no third-party fonts, CDNs, or external resources. The only data collected is the standard server logs kept by GitHub Pages as part of hosting (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited). See GitHub’s Privacy Statement for details.
