This privacy policy applies specifically to the DevPeek app and takes precedence over the general CodeCraftedApps privacy policy for all matters related to this app. Where any difference exists between the two policies, this app-specific policy governs.
DevPeek ("the App") is developed and published by CodeCraftedApps. CodeCraftedApps ("CodeCraftedApps," "we," or "I") is one independent developer based in the United States. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how DevPeek handles your information — the short version is that it collects nothing and sends nothing off your Mac.
Overview
DevPeek is a Quick Look preview extension that shows developer files — code, configuration files, JSON, CSV, Markdown and similar — formatted when you preview them in Finder. It is designed around a simple principle: your files and your activity stay on your device. DevPeek has no servers, no accounts, and makes no network requests of any kind.
Data Collection
- No Personal Data Collection: We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.
- No Analytics or Tracking: The app contains no analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking of any kind.
- No Accounts: DevPeek requires no sign-up, login, or user account.
- No Network Requests: DevPeek does not connect to the internet or send your data anywhere. The Quick Look extension — the only part that ever reads your files — is sandboxed with no network entitlements at all, so it cannot reach the network even in principle.
File Access
- Only the File You Preview: When you Quick Look a file, macOS hands DevPeek that single file to render. DevPeek requests no folder access and cannot browse your disk.
- On-Device Only: The file’s contents are read on your Mac solely to produce the preview. They are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared.
- Read-Only: DevPeek only reads the file to display it. It never modifies, moves, or deletes your files.
- Environment Files: Files such as
.envoften hold passwords and keys. DevPeek hides their values in the preview by default, and like every other file, their contents never leave your Mac. - Saving the Sample File: The only time DevPeek writes anything is when you ask it to save a sample document. You choose the location in a standard save dialog, and the app is granted access to that one file — not to the folder it sits in.
- App Sandbox: DevPeek runs in the macOS App Sandbox, which limits it to the file the system provides for preview.
Preferences
Any settings you choose are stored locally on your Mac using the system’s standard preferences storage. These preferences never leave your device.
Purchase
DevPeek is a one-time purchase through the Mac App Store. Apple handles the payment; CodeCraftedApps never receives your payment details. There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions.
Third Parties
DevPeek uses no third-party servers, analytics SDKs, or advertising networks. It renders files entirely on your device, using Apple’s open-source swift-markdown library for Markdown, which runs locally and makes no network connections.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because DevPeek stores nothing off your device, there is no server-side data to retain or delete. Any local preferences exist only while the app is installed. Uninstalling DevPeek removes them from your Mac. Your files are never held by DevPeek — they always remain in their original locations under your control.
Security
- macOS Security: Your data is protected by macOS security features, including the App Sandbox and device encryption.
- No Network Transmission: DevPeek makes no network connections, so there is no data in transit to intercept. Every preview is further restricted by a content policy that blocks scripts and every remote resource from loading.
- No Backend Servers: There are no servers to compromise.
- No Tracking SDKs: The app is built on Apple frameworks and local rendering code, with no third-party tracking code.
Encryption
DevPeek does not implement any custom encryption. It relies solely on macOS’s built-in protections. The app qualifies for the encryption exemption under U.S. export regulations (EAR) as it uses only standard operating-system functionality.
Children’s Privacy
DevPeek does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. It is safe for users of all ages in this regard.
