Terms of Use
Hi. Thanks for your interest in ContactTap. This document is the formal “please use it responsibly and don't sue me” page. It's written to be readable instead of intimidating, but the legal weight is real, so please give it a once-over.
What this extension is
ContactTap is a Safari Web Extension with a small companion app. When you tap its button, it finds contact information — phone numbers, email addresses, and postal addresses — on the web page you're viewing, and offers actions for each: call, text, email, open in Apple Maps, copy, or save to Contacts. That is all it does.
It is currently in development. When released, it will be a one-time $0.99 purchase on the App Store covering iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with no advertising, analytics, telemetry, or in-app purchases.
What it does, and (importantly) what it does NOT promise
ContactTap finds and hands off contact info on a best-effort basis. It is a convenience, not a guarantee. In particular:
- It may miss contact info — unusual address layouts, obfuscated emails, foreign numbers written without a country code, and text inside images can all go undetected. When the scanner isn't confident, it stays quiet rather than guess.
- It may occasionally misread — a digit run that looks exactly like a phone number, or an address split ambiguously across a page, can produce a wrong or garbled result. Review what you're about to call, message, map, or save before you act on it.
- It does not verify that a number, email, or address is current, correct, or belongs to who the page says it does. It reports what the page contains; the page is someone else's work.
- It does not validate or geocode addresses against any online service — that would require network requests it deliberately never makes.
- It does not control the apps it hands off to. Once you tap Call, Text, Email, or Open in Maps, the system app takes over; what it does from there is between you, that app, and Apple.
Use it responsibly
ContactTap surfaces information that someone published on a web page, one page at a time, for your personal use. By using it, you agree:
- To comply with all laws applicable to you — including telemarketing, anti-spam, and data-protection laws — in how you use any contact information you collect or save.
- Not to use ContactTap as part of any bulk-harvesting, scraping, cold-outreach, or lead-generation workflow. It is deliberately built without those capabilities; don't bolt them on around it.
- You are solely responsible for verifying contact info before relying on it, and for how you treat the people it belongs to.
- You will not attempt to use ContactTap to facilitate harm to other people, systems, or data.
“As-is” — no warranty
ContactTap is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The developer makes no guarantee that ContactTap will be error-free, uninterrupted, accurate for every page, or compatible with every future version of Safari, iOS, or macOS.
You install and use ContactTap at your own risk. The developer is not responsible for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages — including but not limited to a wrong number dialed, a misdirected email, an incorrect saved contact, lost time, lost productivity, or any other loss — arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the extension. This applies even if the developer has been advised of the possibility of such damages, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
If your jurisdiction does not allow the disclaimer or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities, those disclaimers and limitations apply only to the extent allowed by law in that jurisdiction.
Software license
ContactTap is commercial software, licensed to you — not sold. Your use of the version you install from the App Store is governed by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, with these Terms of Use supplementing it. Don't reverse-engineer, resell, or redistribute the app except as that agreement and applicable law allow.
Maintenance and updates
ContactTap is built and supported by one independent developer. I plan to keep it working as Safari and Apple's platforms ship new versions, and I'll do my best to address accuracy or compatibility issues as they appear, but there is no service-level commitment and no guarantee of:
- A specific response time on support emails or bug reports
- Continued updates indefinitely into the future
- Support for every contact format, language, or future Apple platform
- Restoration of any specific feature if it has to be removed for legal, security, or compatibility reasons
Trademarks
“Apple”, “Safari”, “Apple Maps”, “Contacts”, “iPhone”, “iPad”, “Mac”, and any related logos are the property of their respective owners. ContactTap is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Apple or any other company. References to Apple's apps are descriptive — they tell you where ContactTap hands off the contact info you tap — and should not be read as a claim of affiliation.
Changes to these terms
If I have to update these terms, the updated version will live at this same URL with a new “Last updated” date at the top. If a change is material, I'll call it out in the release notes for the version that introduces it.
Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless CodeCraftedApps and its owner from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use or misuse of ContactTap, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any third party — including how you use contact information you gather with it.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Nevada, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. Any disputes arising from your use of ContactTap will be resolved in the courts of the State of Nevada or the federal courts located therein, to the extent permitted by law. If you are using ContactTap from a jurisdiction whose laws mandate a different forum or governing law, those mandatory rules apply to the extent required.
